Haven't been doing much posting recently as you can see. I've been spending my time working through Myst 3: Exile, the 3rd installment of the Myst/Riven series. I've been a big fan of this series for a long time, it's about the only gaming I do. I am always in awe of the fabulous graphics and intricate detail in these games. The puzzles are always ingenious too and usually means a cheat here and there to get through them. But it's great fun and a good way to waste time.
Not to spread any more paranoia than there already is, but there's an interesting site at www.ready.gov with instructions on what to do in case of various types of terrorist attacks. It smacks of '50's cold war propoganda but I'm afraid that if the sirens go off now, hiding under your desk with a textbook on your head is not going to cut it. For anyone interested, the photo retouch project is done. It worked out OK and the results can be seen here. Saturday, February 15, 2003
Well it looks like George Bush may just have to take his ball and go home if the other kids don't want to play. Now that the weapon inspector poobahs have downplayed Sadam's sadisticity, George and Captain Powell, his trusty sidekick will go to the basement and sulk. Meanwhile the paranoia meter is still stuck on orange so the citizens of America can be afraid, very afraid. I wouldn't ignore that new tough gang on the block, North Korea for too long either. Just a bit of a chuckle: with all the hooplah over Iraq and the mamby pamby French, Osma bin Lonely had to actually send a message saying "Hellooo.....remember me?" Anyway back to more important things: It is now against law in New York City for your cell phone to go off in a theatre or other public performance venue, even museums and art galleries. So when the cell phone police are hovering over you at Lord Of the Rings while you sheepishly scramble to silence your little buddy, you can brazenly tell them you were expecting an important call from Osama. Congratulations to the Crayola Crayon people who are celebrating their 100th Anniversary. In this age of super high tech it's nice to remember the lowliness from whence we all came and if it wasn't for the guys at Crayola, growing up would not have been half the fun. I had to chuckle while reading the article which stated that certain colors had to be renamed over the years to maintain a little crayon PC like "Indian" Red and all little boy's favourite, "Flesh". I recall the pleasure of a new shool year opening a fresh new box of those chunks of rainbow colored wax and the care taken to keep them as pristine as possible. However, by the end of the term they were all just pitiful stubs of their former selves with the black one nowhere to be seen. They tasted pretty good too.
Congrats also go out to Google, the search engine, for winning the prestigious "Best Brand" award beating out Apple computers (yay!!) and the mighty Coca Cola company. I wonder if the fact that the poll was done online have anything to do with it? Yahoo anyway! Monday, February 10, 2003
I just put in a link to the website of a friend of my whom I have had the pleasure of making music with. He is Rocky Wiseman, from Newfoundland and a terrific drummer. Check out some of his work at the link to the left.
Over the weekend we had a minor problem with the Blogger. As I was adjusting elements of the page it all of a sudden started acting goofy and essentially crashed. I could post messages but they would not show up on the home page, only in the archives. So to fix the problem I have had to resort to designing a whole new web page and as you can see it has a bit of a different look. The downside of it is that all the old post archives are not available from this site. However, I don't think anybody will be too excited about not being able to read what I wrote last January so it's not much of a loss. All the usual links are here, in a somewhat neater package and the archives are now indexed on a page of their own which you can link to at the bottom left. The good news is that Part 3 of Road to Kenya is done and has been linked. So go to the Kenya title page to read that account and see some of the pictures. With working on trying to fix the blog over the weekend I haven't had much time for anything else but I have started a project to restore a photograph that a friend gave me that he wants to post on his site. The photo has suffered some damage and I am going to attempt to "doctor" it up. Click here to see the original and the damage accross the bottom. I'm going to attempt to repair that. So stay tuned and I'll show you the results of that experiment.
