DVD Release
It's been a busy couple of weeks which is why I haven't been doing much posting to the Chronicle. I have been working on the Wedding DVD which is now complete. It looks pretty good, I think, for a first time effort and has been a very rewarding learning experience. It was my first foray into the world of DVD authoring and I was quite surprised at the fact that it all worked. It is by no means broadcast quality but definately gives one the inspiration to develop further projects. So hopefully there will be more videos in the future. I have tons of footage from 12 years of vacations to work with. For the past couple of weeks, Sandi, Nicole and myself have been playing in a summer band program sponsored by the University of Alberta. It is all orchestral music and quite a departure from the jazz stuff I am used to playing. Nonetheless, it is very challanging and an excellent way to stay in musical shape with lots of sight reading and breath control. I am playing tenor sax, Nikki is on trumpet and Sandi is playing clarinet. We have a couple of concerts coming up in July, one of which is in Red Deer. Saturday, June 18, 2005
New Wheels
I finally broke down and bought a truck yesterday. It's 1990 Nissan Club Cab that's in pretty good shape. I'll use it for hauling stuff to the dump or picking up lumber from Home Depot. It's got a hitch so I'll be able to use my little utility trailer again. The girls are also chomping at the bit to get out and use it which is another reason for buying it. We were having trouble accommodating four drivers with only two vehicles. The truck has a five speed manual transmission so the girls will have to be checked out on that before they are allowed free reign. It's raining pretty good here today, but not quite as bad as the south has been getting it. It's just a nice steady rain that is just soaking into the parched ground. It'll be good for the lawns. Hawaiian Honeymoon
After seeing them off at the airport on cold and rainy day last Sunday, Ang and Lee are finally basking away in the sun in fabulous Hawaii. They arrived Sunday evening and were spotted yesterday on this web cam on Waikiki beach: Let's hope they have a marvelous time during this long awaited and much needed 11 day holiday. So I spent the day today looking for a coolant leak on Angela's new car. After their accident three weeks before the wedding in which Angie's Honda was totaled, someone miraculously found a car and gave it to her. It's a 1989 Acura Integra and apart from a little rust on the tail is in not bad shape. It's not mint, but for the price...! I replaced a couple of hose clamps and the coolant, took it for a spin and it seems to be fine. This car sure moves. It's got a five speed manual tranny and a very gutsy little engine that makes it just fly. Well I guess the jury acquitted Michael Jackson. Figures! Wearing pajamas and looking like he was on death's door at the trial must have pulled a few heart strings in the jury. The general consensus around the water cooler is that he is guilty as sin or at least very perverted. Either way, he now joins the OJ Simpson "I Am Innocent" club. Friday, June 10, 2005
Navigation
I just did a quick check of the site and it seems to be working. Navigation is quite simple. The site is divided into five sections. Each section can be accessed by rolling your mouse over the small logos and clicking on the titles that appear. Then just click on any thumbnail for a larger view of the picture or follow the linking arrows from picture to picture. Album Is Online
As you can see to the left there is a new link to the Wedding Album page. It is finally online! I found the problem late this afternoon. I had unfortunately run out of room on the Telus server, going way over my 10 mbyte limit and that had caused the page to crash because all the elements were not loaded. After a bit of housecleaning and the elimination of a couple of picture galleries I was able to upload the site and it seems to be working. Crash & Burn
I finished most of the Wedding Album webpage last night and all was working fine. But as soon as I loaded it onto the Telus server it wouldn't work properly so I haven't been able to put it online. I'll have to spend a couple of days debugging although I'm really not sure what's the problem. So please hang in there. It will be up soon. Angie and Lee are in their final prep stages for their honeymoon trip to Hawaii after Lee convocated from University yesterday afternoon. Angie's grad had to be delayed as she needed to finish up a course. She will convocate in November. Meanwhile their flight to Honolulu leaves around noon on Sunday so we will be going out to the airport to see them off. Interesting news from silicon valley, Apple plans to jump ship on processor chips from IBM and start using Intel chips. This may wreak havoc with a few mac users as there is some question whether older apple software will run on the new processors. There was some talk that it will hopefully bring down the purchase price of macs but don't hold your breath. Any savings will surely used to pad Steve Job's profit margin. Tuesday, June 07, 2005
Web Page Just About Done
The web album of Angie and Lee's wedding is just about ready to go so keep checking the link at left. With the work on this page I haven't had too much time to work on the video hilite reel and the DVD but hope to get back to that in a few days. The more I seem to do on these projects the more I learn about doing the projects better, but that always means spending even more time climbing the learning curve. Hopefully I can eventually knock this stuff off a little faster. Saturday, June 04, 2005
Time For Work
It appears I have some work cut out for me. We just recieved, last night, two CD's from one of the photographers containing 549 pictures from the wedding. There are some fabulous shots. She did a great job. The trick now is to decide which ones to use. I can see the website becoming very bloated with images. I guess I shall have to be very judicial in my decisions as to what to use. Keep checking back to the link on the left for updates in the album. We were supposed to get a rainy weekend but so far it has just been very cloudy and threatening with the sun poking through now and again. I was able to get the lawn done and sweep out the garage before any wet stuff came down. It will be interesting to see what the verdict will be in the Michael Jackson case which should be out early next week. I don't particularily care for him as a musician but he certainly strikes one as being a rather strange bird and it wouldn't surprise me if he is found guilty, although I don't see it amounting to a lot of jail time. These celebs seem to have an inside track to the judicial system somehow. (ie Martha Stewart)
