Great Biking Weather
The weather has a moderated a bit over the last couple of days making it not so unbearable to do anything outdoors. In fact it was so nice yesterday we packed a picnic lunch and headed off on our bikes to Fort Edmonton Park for the day. The ride there was very pleasant, about 16k and at 11:00 in the morning the wind was nice and fresh still. It only took us about an hour and the only really scary bit was heading down into the river valley towards the park as there were no sidewalks or trails and no shoulders on the road, so we were zooming down the road about 45 kph with massive trucks bearing down on us from all sides. But we made it OK and had a very pleasant day walking around the park and visiting with Sandi as she made bread in her wood stove in her "temporary" tent home. We were a bit tired at the end of the day and still had the ride back which proved a little challenging as we had a rather steep climb to get out of the valley and we eventually resorted to dismounting our bikes and huffing it up the hill on foot. We arrived home just as a sprinkle of rain started to fall and spent the rest of the evening relaxing with a couple of movies. I had lugged the video camera down to the park in my backpack but discovered that the battery was dead after the kids had last used it so I couldn't get any pictures or footage of Sandi and the goings on in the park. Today we putzed around the house doing some cleaning and deciding that the downstairs bathroom taps needed replacing and so with company coming next week we rushed of to Home Depot to get some supplies. I have the lovely job of replacing the taps tomorrow morning. In the afternoon I have an appointment for a physical and I was going to bike over until I realized that it would not be very pleasant for the doctor if I showed up all sweaty and stinky, not to mention what that would do to my blood pressure. I might be whisked off to emergency. We are still hoping to get down to the river valley trails while we are still on holidays but I'm not sure when that will be. We will have to go soon as members of Dianne's family will be arriving midweek for our nephew Devon's wedding. Plus we want to clean out the garage and both cars as well as sorting out my shop a bit, so we have lots to keep us busy.
