Heat Wave

We've been having real hot summer weather for the past few days with the mercury reaching the high 30's. Makes doing anything outdoors a real chore. And inside the house it's not been much better. Yesterday we broke down and bought some blinds for our living room windows after having them bare for a few years. Hopefully it will cut down a bit of the radiant heat from the windows. And in a classic comedy of errors, we went looking for a portable fan this afternoon only to find everyone sold out...Duh!
I finally took the plunge and biked to work for the three days I worked last week and found it very enjoyable. The crisp air at 7:30 am really wakes you up and the workout gets the blood moving. It's about a 10k ride to the office, not real strenuous, but a bit more challenging coming home in the afternoon heat. I look forward to doing it more after the holidays. Dianne are both having a couple of weeks off at the moment and plan to do a little biking in the river valley as well as some other activities.
This morning we were awakened about 6:00 with a very close and intense thunder storm that dropped a bit of rain on us and then moved on. Not the most pleasant way of waking up.
